Questions, answered plainly.
The things studios ask us most — about coverage, claims and getting started. Cannot find yours? Book a risk advisor call and ask a human.
General
We insure tattoo studios, body piercing studios and permanent makeup / cosmetic tattoo artists — from single artist private rooms to multi chair collectives. If your work involves a needle and skin, we are built for you.
We are an independent specialist brokerage, the body art program of NRG Insurance — an owner led, Seattle based agency since 1925. We place your coverage with established insurance companies.
We are licensed in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Arizona and California — with more states to come. Specific products, limits and pricing can vary by state and are confirmed during your risk advisor call.
Coverage
Most studios carry professional liability, general liability, bloodborne / communicable condition coverage and products liability, plus property and contents. From there we add business interruption, cyber, workers’ comp, equipment and guest / convention coverage to match your studio.
Yes. Guest and resident artists can be endorsed onto your program, and we issue short term certificates for conventions, guest spots and pop ups — usually the same day you ask.
That is the whole point of professional liability in our program — it defends the work itself, including alleged injury, infection and disputed healed results. It is the exact coverage generic policies tend to exclude.
In most cases, yes. Private and home adjacent studios are common in the trade; we underwrite them on their real setup rather than turning them away.
No — tattoo insurance protects your studio and your work against liability; it does not pay for tattoo removal procedures. If removal is a service you offer, tell your risk advisor so we can rate that exposure on its own.
Claims
Call us at (206) 363-1110 or email insurance@nrg-insurance.com and we open your claim straight away. A Trusted risk advisor then manages it with you from first notice to resolution — no phone tree, no script.
Every claim is different — but you are never left chasing it. One Trusted risk advisor stays on it from first notice to resolution, pushing the carrier so nothing stalls in a queue.
Not automatically. We manage how a claim is recorded and shop your renewal so a single incident does not quietly reshape your whole program.
Pricing & getting started
Premiums depend on your discipline, location, number of artists and the limits you choose. Most independent studios land in a very workable range — your risk advisor call gives you a firm, tailored number.
A typical studio goes from a 20-minute call to issued within 1–2 working days. When you need a certificate urgently, we can often move faster.
Just the basics: where you are, what services you offer, how many artists work the space and your rough annual revenue. We guide you through the rest on the call.
